Been a while since my last post, and a lot of crap has happened since then. The Bruins advanced to the Eastern Conference Finals, which starts tonight, after they finished off a sweep of the Flyers, of course that was not without it's issues as Patrice Bergeron suffered a concussion and is out indefinitely. So, while the Bruins exercised the demons of what happened last year with the Flyers, the Flyers did leave their mark on the Bruins, but hopefully Tyler Seguin can step it out and the Bruins can take care of the Lightning and get to to Stanley Cup Finals. Tampa Bay Lightning definitely have their fair share of offensive power, Lecavlier, St. Louis, Stamkos, Gagne is back and he killed us last year when he came back for the Flyers in that series. The one matchup that I do really like, Tim Thomas vs Dwayne Roloson, got to say, Dwayne Roloson has played well, but he doesn't scare me and doesn't really impress me, probably shouldn't say that though, cause I'm sure he'll probably end up standing on his head and prove me wrong. I like the Bruins chances in this one, but they got to come out and win these games at home, not that they can't get it done on the road, but they have to ride the momentum they are on, which could be tough to do given they haven't played in over a week, but neither has Tampa, so it should be a good series.
On the other side of the coin, the Celtics, well they got beat by the Heat, not really sure what to say about this series, they were in every game, first 2 in Miami, they had their chances to get into the games and steal them, but they couldn't. Game 3 they fed of the crowd and willed their way despite Rondo's injury to a victory, but Rondo's injury ended up being their downfall, which makes sense, he runs the offense and with only one arm, kinda hard to do that. Took the Heat a while to figure out just what to do with a one armed Rondo in game 4, but eventually they figured it out, and where able to get the game to OT, thanks in part to the Celtics botching the final play of regulation, and they controlled OT and the game was over and going up 3-1 and sending it back home, pretty much ended the series. Celtics had their chance in game 5, but ultimately down the stretch, thanks in large part to Rondo's injury, the offense got stagnant and Heat took over and game over, series over, see you next year. Next year should be interesting, we know Doc will be back after signing a 5 year deal, and obviously Pierce, Allen, Garnett and Rondo will be back, or will they? I don't think anyone though Perk was gonna get traded, so you never can be too sure what's gonna happen. The biggest questions I think will be who's coming back, will Shaq be back, he's got another year, but after this year, if he walks away, not like he's walking away from a ton of money or nothing, will Jermaine O'Neal be back, I feel like he showed some signs of life in the playoffs, and he's got some more money to come back to, so I would guess he'll probably be back. What about Jeff Green? Big Baby? Delonte? Kristic? I would assume the likes of Troy Murphy, Sasha Pavlovic , Carlos Arroyo, Von Wafer are probably not coming back, but who will replace them, what free agents will they sign, will there be any trades, what will the they do with their draft picks. Then again this is all assuming that there is a season next year, the CBA is up, and we are probably headed to some sort of Lockout, will it shorten the season, what kind of changes will be make, will there be a hard cap? So many questions to be answered, but I'll just say this, there's a decent chance that we won't have any Football or Basketball next fall, could get interesting.
So, we are 2 episodes removed from the end of the Michael Scott era on The Office, and while the last 2 epsidoes were good, of course the first one had Will Ferrell still in it, so clearly that was gonna be funny regardless, but this past week, it was good, but ultimately it just felt like it was missing something, which was clearly Michael. I still am not sure where they are going with this, after this past week, I don't think Dwight works as the manager, it could still end up being him I guess, but I don't know, I just feel he needs to be not the manager, cause then his whole dynamic with Jim doesn't work, part of his whole gimmick is that he pretends to have more power then he does and always threatens to fire Jim, but if he ends up actually having the power, then why wouldn't he just fire Jim? Ok, so, then who, will it be someone already on the show? Andy doesn't make sense given that they have spend the last few years trying to show that he is terrible at his job, Jim doesn't want it and I don't think that would work, noone else really makes sense, it's not gonna be Creed. So, are they bringing in someone new, they have a bunch of guest stars coming in for the Finale next week, and out of all of them, only 1 makes sense to join the cast, Will Arnett, his show got cancelled, he has nothing else going on that I know off, he works well in a ensemble, so that could work, not sure if that is actually happening, but I tell you one person that it won't be, Ashton Kutcher, cause he is replacing Charlie Sheen on Two and a Half Men, for what I can only assume is gonna be the last season of that show. Well, anyway, the Finale should be good and can't wait to see what happens.
Speaking of Finales, last night was the Series Finale of Smallville. If you haven't seen it and plan on watching it, I won't ruin it for you, but they did a pretty good job of ending it, don't think I'm spoiling anything by saying they end it with him becoming Superman, obviously. Interesting what they end up doing with Lex Luthor, although they had already alluded to it earlier in the series, but I always hate that will Finales, cause now I want to see what else happens, sure I know the story of Superman through the other series and movies and stuff, but it would be interesting to see where they were gonna take it with this version. Oh well.
Last time on the Bliggity Blog, I talked about 1990 on MTV, but I kinda left out a couple things, 1990 MTV took a couple chances with some new stuff, actually this first one technically started at the very end on 1989, but didn't really pick up right away, and that was MTV Unplugged, during the 90's anyone who was anyone was doing Unplugged, and it really took off, but we'll explore that later on in the countdown. The other thing that got started in 1990 was MTV's Rock N Jock, started off with Softball, they would get sports stars, music stars, movie stars and play a game of Softball that usually had some funky rules and craziness, they would later add a basketball one, but it started with Softball:
Moving on to 1991, 1991 was a pretty huge year for music, and it was a very interesting year, cause the bands and style that would define the 90s really started to emerge, but there were also a lot of groups that had been big in the 80s had to rediscover themselves a bit and try and stay ahead of the game and keep things fresh of the 90s, cause there were a lot of groups that didn't make the transition. Then of course there were as always some one hit wonders mixed in. So lets get things started with what your mama said:
And less not forget some home cooking, Boston's own Extreme had their big hit this year:

Of Course 1991 was not without it's one hit wonders, and it's Unbelievable that these guys only had 1 hit, who would have thought that would happen:

Ok, these next group of videos all come from groups that had success in the 80s, but were now changing it up a little for the 90s, first up, Ozzy, was big in the 70s with Black Sabbath, then went solo and was big in the 80s, but what did the 90s have in store, supposively retirement, and in 1991 he release what was gonna be his last album, and it might have been his best:
Not to be outdone, U2 had to do there best to follow up Joshua Tree, and while Rattle & Hum held some people over for a little while, people wanted something new, and they got it:
In a similar situation, Guns N' Roses had the tough task of following up Appetite For Destruction, and while Lies held people over for a little bit, GNR didn't disappoint releasing not just 1 but 2 albums, and also did the smart thing of having 2 different versions of their first single one on each album, which ultimately helped when the albums were release and set the record for highest selling albums in their first week of release, this record wouldn't last all that long though. Anyway, the first of what would end up being a trilogy of elaborate videos:
Another band that had been big in the 80s, but more so with a specific audience was Metallica, and while they had just recently entered the world of Music Videos with One, things were about to change, and Metallica was about to take off, and released the biggest selling album that year:
Similar to Metallica, this next group had been very popular in the 80s with a specific audience, but in 1991 it expanded:
The same thing could also be said for this next group, who from a music video standpoint had the biggest success of any of these group, as they would win the 1991 VMA for Video of the Year for this song:
1991 also mark what I would consider the beginning of the end for this next individual, and while it started off with a bang, a crazy event which had the debut of his video being simalcast on MTV, VH1, BET and Fox, and it was quite the event, Michael Jackson was back with the oddly titled song Black or White, point of the song was I guess to get all the people of the world no matter if they were Black or White or whatever together, but really it was just confusing, cause people were just thinking, wait, Is he black or white? The Video also created a lot of controversy, and the whole race thing would fall on deaf ears as 6 months later there was riots in LA from the Rodney King verdict. But here's the video:
Now, it's interesting to note that this wasn't actually the original version, after it first aired, people were disturbed by the 2nd half the video, specifically the crotch grabbing and the violence, the did change it in this version, digitally adding the racist comments and stuff, which not originally there, I guess to seem like there was a reason for the smashing everything. I also don't really understand what he's dancing too, there's no music, what the hell. Now, I know Michael Jackson did a lot of other stuff after this, but this was really the end of him being The Guy, sure this album did well, but it wasn't that good and nothing else he did was ever very good or did well.
The Michael Jackson video would become kinda a joke, and not too long after another group who were ending their run, took a little shot at him at the end of their video:
But really, you can not talk about 1991 without talking about the emergence of Grunge music and the whole Seattle Alternative scene, the big 4, as I'll call it all made their marks this year. Alice In Chains:

Just to point this into perspective, and not to jump the gun too much, but after Michael Jackson's album came out and went to #1, in early 1992 when it was bumped from the top of the charts it was Nirvana's Nevermind that took that spot, and to further this point, the previous 2 times that Michael Jackson had release an album, Thriller and Bad, Weird Al had done a parody of Beat It with Eat It and Bad with Fat, so when it was time once again for him to make another album and a Michael Jackson album had just come out, would have made sense for him to do another, but instead he chose to go in another direction:
Yup, that pretty much tells you how the landscape was changing. Also kinda weird the lyric that is the title of this post, from Smells Like Teen Spirit, seeing how Michael Jackson's album was called Dangerous, I don't know, just saying.

Donde Esta La Biblioteca?
Happy Cinco De Mayo, which I'm pretty sure loosely translates to 5 pounds of Mayonnaise. From what I remember the idea of this day is that Jerrod Mayo and OJ Mayo have an eating contest and the first one to eat 5 pounds of Mayonnaise is the winner, if Jerrod wins, then it'll be an early summer, if OJ wins, then 6 more weeks of spring. Ok, so I just double checked, I was way off, it's actually just the 5th of May and there was some kind of battle that Mexico won over the French, which happens, did the French ever win a war? Well, whatever, now I'm not really sure how this holiday is perceived in the Mexican community, but I kinda feel like it's sorta a St. Patrick's Day kinda thing, but honestly, I'm not a big fan of Corona's or Mexican beers and I hate Tequila, so not that fun. I do like Tacos and Burritos and Nachos and stuff, so I guess I'm good with the food.
Ok, random thoughts for today. First of all, what's the deal with Ice Cream, like it's solid right, I understand that if it doesn't stay cold it will become a liquid, but here is my question, why when you buy Ice Cream is it by the quart or half gallon or pint or whatever, those are liquid measurements. I don't know, I don't get it, if I go by Ice, it's by the pounds, no one buys a gallon of ice.
So, anyone else download the new Firefox 4 yet, the setup is a little annoying with how the tabs are at the top, cause for anyone with Window's Vista, when you put your arrow up near the top of the screen, the bar comes up and gets in the way, pretty annoying.
So, Bruins are once again up 3-0 on the Flyers, I feel better about it this year then last year, but definitely after what happened last year, won't be comfortable until the Bruins have won the 4th game and are shaking hands. Playoff beard is coming along nicely, although one person who isn't growing their playoff beard anymore is Conan O'Brien, who had his beard shaved off by Will Ferrell this past Monday, if you didn't see it, you should check it out:
Celtics need to step it up on Saturday, must win situation, sounds like Shaq is gonna play, so that should be a help. This of course when KISS decided to unmask, take off the makeup and costumes and just be normal guys, much to the dismay of their fans and pretty much everyone, and here it is:
Probably didn't help that this wasn't the classic KISS Lineup, Vinny Vincent? Eric Carr? where are Ace Frehley and Peter Criss? Of course this was all in order to promote their new album and single Lick It Up:
Eric Carr would later get a tumor on his heart and die the same day as Freddy Mercury, so there you go, KISS didn't do so great without the makeup and outfits and stuff, which actually leads to the 90s, as they did make a big comeback with the original lineup and makeup and everything, and along with a little help from Tupac Shakur at the 1996 Grammys, they got big again:
Love the fact that 2Pac says that KISS are his homeboys and that Hootie and the Blowfish are his other homeboys, really 2Pac? really? 2Pac would later that year get shot and die after Mike Tyson knocked out Bruce Seldon, so there you go. But actually we are getting way ahead of ourselves here, we need to take it back 6 years to 1990:

You had your 80s people hanging on like these guys:

But then you sorta has the underground rumblings of some of the bands that would take over in the years to come, like these guys:
Or how about these guys, well really this guy, but whatever:
But really, 1990 was pretty much dominated by a few people that were pretty much big in 1990 and that was it, they weren't quite 80s, but not really 90s, and people didn't really know what was going on, so these guys came along and got big, but then people got sick of them pretty much. Like this guy:
Then you can't really mention that guy without bringing up his white counterpart:
But one could argue that both of them while they had big hits and burst on the scene in 1990, may have been battling for 2nd place behind this women:
I will however point out that because of those 3 songs it was also a big year for Rick James, Queen and Prince as those song were respectively the basis of songs they made. In MC Hammer and Vanilla Ice's cases they used samples from Rick James and Queen without permission, and ended up being sued and having to pay a lot, In Sinead's case she legitly got the song from Prince, who originally wrote if for some group called The Family, and she just did a remake. Nothing compares to you would also win the award for Video of the year at the 1990 MTV VMAs.
Well, there you go, that pretty much sums up 1990 in music, sure there were probably a bunch of other big hits and stuff, but that'll do it for now, but if you were a young kid in 1990 like I was, mainly boys, you know that it was a big year, cause the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, came alive and were on the big screen:

May Day, May Day
The Blog is back for a special May Day edition, now while I actually have no idea what May Day is exactly, I do know what in movies and stuff when they say May Day, May Day, usually they are going down. Also May Day was former Red Sox relief pitcher Sam Malone's nickname, ok, so maybe he didn't really play for the Red Sox, but Sam "May Day" Malone is an icon. The concept for Cheers was a little strange though, I mean former Red Sox player opening a bar in Boston, I get that, but he's a recovering alcoholic, probably not the best place for him to be hanging out, no? It's also weird that other then in a few episodes towards the beginning of the series, they didn't really deal with that issue all that much, guess it was kinda a dark subject for what the show ended up becoming in the later seasons. Ok, so all this talk about Cheers brings me to a point. What was the best 80's Sitcom theme music? Cheers is definitely up there:
But is it the best? I'm not sure, I personally always enjoyed the Perfect Strangers theme song, which I have covered before in the blog, but just for the hell of it, here it is again, the original version though:
This was another interesting concept for a show, guy from Wisconsin moves to Chicago and then ends up living with his distant cousin that he never met before who is from the fictitious country of Mypos in Europe, I feel like if they tried this today, people would just be like WTF? and it would last 3 episodes and be off the air, instead it was the 80's so it lasted 8 seasons. Ok, quick sidenote here, watching Rocky III right now, and they just had the scene where Mickey dies, my question is Rocky actually saying words here?
I'm not sure if those are words, I can't tell, what exactly did the script say for that part? Anyway, getting back to 80 TV Themes, another one of my favorities was Growing Pains, which had a great theme song as well:
I also liked the fact that they would switch it up too, they had different versions of the end where someone would stay and look at the camera longer for some reason, it was actually similar to what the Simpsons do with the couch gags, but Growing Pains did it first. Ok, couple things to note about this show, concept of this show was pretty, basic family show, interesting to note that Maggie Seaver, maiden name that she used when she was a reporter was Malone, so pretty sure she was Sam Malone's sister, I know that's probably not the case, but lets just go with it. Lot of people got their starts on this show, Leonardo DiCaprio was brought in for the last season, Brad Pitt made his debut on the show, and Matthew Perry also did some guest spots on the show before he was anyone, and actually was in a very special episode, he played Carol's boyfriend and was in a drunk driving accident and died, I know, very dark for a family sitcom, but it had a message which I remember at the end of the episode it had a special note that said don't drink and drive or something, it was weird. Anyway, moving on, Who's the Boss was another show right in the wheelhouse which had a great theme as well.
I don't know, definitely memorable, but I don't think it matches up with the other ones as well, but this one might:
Ok, now maybe its not that great, but I think the reason that I always liked it was because of an SNL skit they did when he was on, where he was in an elevator and Kevin Nealon comes in and keeps start singing the song and annoys the hell out of him, then Dana Carvey comes in and they start singing Back In Time, or maybe it was the other way around, I can't remember and can't find it anywhere online, but it was awesome. They also did one with Sting, which was good too. Ok, now technically these next couple started in the 70's but they went into the 80's, and I remember them more for syndication anyway, but anyway, they are great.
Ok, I can't say I really watched this show all that much, I know it spun off Happy Days, I pretty much just remember the theme music, but whatever, this next show however I was a huge fan of and it had a great theme as well:
Ok, for some reason I couldn't just find the opening on youtube, but that's got it in there. Loved this show when I was little, which when looking back on it, I'm not really sure why, I know I didn't really get half the jokes, but John Ritter did enough physical comedy as a kid that must have kept me interested. Ok, that's all I can think of for now, I'm sure there's plenty more that I'm leaving out, so let me know which is your favorite.
So, having been blogging much recently, been busy with some stuff, had an exciting week, went and saw the Bruins finish of Montreal in OT in Game 7, that was exciting and it was about time I saw the Bruins win a game 7 after the last 2 years, just a plus that it was against Montreal. Now it's time to get some revenge on the Flyers, and they are off to a good start winning game 1 7-3, Philly has issues in goal. Course after last year won't be comfortable until the Bruins are shaking hands after winning. Celtics finished off the Knicks and now take on Miami, which will be a crazy series, but I feel like the Celtics will win it in 6, so hopefully they can prove me right.
What else happened this week, well Thursday Night was Steve Carell's last episode as Michael Scott on The Office, which was good, could have been better, but certainly went out in style. I feel like the episode should have atleast been an hour, 53 minutes or whatever it was, was odd, seemed like they rushed it a little too much, but it was good, it'll be interesting to see how these next 3 episodes go, kinda strange that they didn't leave Carell's last episode for the finale, but I got a couple theories as to why they did that, either A, they wanted to get their feet wet with not having Michael Scott around, or maybe he was only signed on for a certain amount of episodes and that was it, not really sure, but either way it will be interesting to see where they ultimately go with the new Boss, cause Will Ferrell only has one more episode left.
Ok, so now while it should be time for me to move on to the 90's in terms of the MTV thing, with all this talk about 80's sitcoms and the fact that I definitely missed a whole bunch more videos in my last few posts, I'm gonna bring you one more dose of the 80's. One of the genre that was big in the 80's and I didn't really get into all that much was Hair Metal, and probably the poster children for Hair Metal was these guys:

Ok, so while hair metal was pretty big in the 80's there was other metal that was big too, and with all this metal being so popular MTV created it's own show to showcase it and that was called Headbangers Ball, and it featured videos that might not normally get played on the station, like video from bands like Megadeth:

Of course on the flipside of that MTV also did the same thing for Rap, when they came out with the show Yo! MTV Raps with Doctor Dre and Ed Lover, and if it wasn't for that show, a group like NWA would never get a video on MTV, but they did:
Only a couple years later Dr Dre, not to confused with Doctor Dre as well as Ice Cube would be all over MTV, but at the time, they didn't really get a lot of airtime.
Ok, so probably one of the biggest omissions that I made during this whole thing, and really 1984, was not including any Bruce Springsteen, no idea how I left him out, he was huge in 1984 cause he released Born in the USA, and well that album was a monster hit, probably many of the "true" Bruce fans will say that's when he sold out, and maybe that's true, and this video might prove that actually:

There was a Wall in Berlin, and in 1989 that wall came down and Germany was reunited, and what better way to celebrate, then with David Hasselhoff:

This was another interesting concept for a show, guy from Wisconsin moves to Chicago and then ends up living with his distant cousin that he never met before who is from the fictitious country of Mypos in Europe, I feel like if they tried this today, people would just be like WTF? and it would last 3 episodes and be off the air, instead it was the 80's so it lasted 8 seasons. Ok, quick sidenote here, watching Rocky III right now, and they just had the scene where Mickey dies, my question is Rocky actually saying words here?
I'm not sure if those are words, I can't tell, what exactly did the script say for that part? Anyway, getting back to 80 TV Themes, another one of my favorities was Growing Pains, which had a great theme song as well:
I also liked the fact that they would switch it up too, they had different versions of the end where someone would stay and look at the camera longer for some reason, it was actually similar to what the Simpsons do with the couch gags, but Growing Pains did it first. Ok, couple things to note about this show, concept of this show was pretty, basic family show, interesting to note that Maggie Seaver, maiden name that she used when she was a reporter was Malone, so pretty sure she was Sam Malone's sister, I know that's probably not the case, but lets just go with it. Lot of people got their starts on this show, Leonardo DiCaprio was brought in for the last season, Brad Pitt made his debut on the show, and Matthew Perry also did some guest spots on the show before he was anyone, and actually was in a very special episode, he played Carol's boyfriend and was in a drunk driving accident and died, I know, very dark for a family sitcom, but it had a message which I remember at the end of the episode it had a special note that said don't drink and drive or something, it was weird. Anyway, moving on, Who's the Boss was another show right in the wheelhouse which had a great theme as well.
I don't know, definitely memorable, but I don't think it matches up with the other ones as well, but this one might:
Ok, now maybe its not that great, but I think the reason that I always liked it was because of an SNL skit they did when he was on, where he was in an elevator and Kevin Nealon comes in and keeps start singing the song and annoys the hell out of him, then Dana Carvey comes in and they start singing Back In Time, or maybe it was the other way around, I can't remember and can't find it anywhere online, but it was awesome. They also did one with Sting, which was good too. Ok, now technically these next couple started in the 70's but they went into the 80's, and I remember them more for syndication anyway, but anyway, they are great.
Ok, I can't say I really watched this show all that much, I know it spun off Happy Days, I pretty much just remember the theme music, but whatever, this next show however I was a huge fan of and it had a great theme as well:
So, having been blogging much recently, been busy with some stuff, had an exciting week, went and saw the Bruins finish of Montreal in OT in Game 7, that was exciting and it was about time I saw the Bruins win a game 7 after the last 2 years, just a plus that it was against Montreal. Now it's time to get some revenge on the Flyers, and they are off to a good start winning game 1 7-3, Philly has issues in goal. Course after last year won't be comfortable until the Bruins are shaking hands after winning. Celtics finished off the Knicks and now take on Miami, which will be a crazy series, but I feel like the Celtics will win it in 6, so hopefully they can prove me right.
What else happened this week, well Thursday Night was Steve Carell's last episode as Michael Scott on The Office, which was good, could have been better, but certainly went out in style. I feel like the episode should have atleast been an hour, 53 minutes or whatever it was, was odd, seemed like they rushed it a little too much, but it was good, it'll be interesting to see how these next 3 episodes go, kinda strange that they didn't leave Carell's last episode for the finale, but I got a couple theories as to why they did that, either A, they wanted to get their feet wet with not having Michael Scott around, or maybe he was only signed on for a certain amount of episodes and that was it, not really sure, but either way it will be interesting to see where they ultimately go with the new Boss, cause Will Ferrell only has one more episode left.
Ok, so now while it should be time for me to move on to the 90's in terms of the MTV thing, with all this talk about 80's sitcoms and the fact that I definitely missed a whole bunch more videos in my last few posts, I'm gonna bring you one more dose of the 80's. One of the genre that was big in the 80's and I didn't really get into all that much was Hair Metal, and probably the poster children for Hair Metal was these guys:

Ok, so while hair metal was pretty big in the 80's there was other metal that was big too, and with all this metal being so popular MTV created it's own show to showcase it and that was called Headbangers Ball, and it featured videos that might not normally get played on the station, like video from bands like Megadeth:

Of course on the flipside of that MTV also did the same thing for Rap, when they came out with the show Yo! MTV Raps with Doctor Dre and Ed Lover, and if it wasn't for that show, a group like NWA would never get a video on MTV, but they did:
Only a couple years later Dr Dre, not to confused with Doctor Dre as well as Ice Cube would be all over MTV, but at the time, they didn't really get a lot of airtime.
Ok, so probably one of the biggest omissions that I made during this whole thing, and really 1984, was not including any Bruce Springsteen, no idea how I left him out, he was huge in 1984 cause he released Born in the USA, and well that album was a monster hit, probably many of the "true" Bruce fans will say that's when he sold out, and maybe that's true, and this video might prove that actually:

Back To The Future Part III
Well, Ladies and Gentlemen we have made it to the third and last installment of the Back To The Future Trilogy. Unfortunately in this case last is least. I've never been a big fan of westerns, but Robert Zemeckis was and always wanted to do one, so for BTTF3, he sends them back to the Old West, throws in a love story for the Doc and well, it doesn't really work on the same level as the first 2 movies, but it's not terrible. It's still watchable and I will do that now. But before we get to it, by 1990 Huey Lewis had more or less run his course, so while they didn't have any musical tie-ins for 2, they decided to have one for 3, and they got ZZ Top, and they had a song Doubleback, which had a video and here it is:
Now this is more like what i was talking about with them using footage from the movie and just incorporating it into the video.
Back To The Future Part III release May 25th, 1990 starring, Michael J Fox, Christopher Lloyd, Mary Steenburgen, Lea Thompson, Thomas F Wilson, Elisabeth Shue, James Tolkan, Flea and ZZ Top. Directed by Robert Zemeckis, written by Robert Zemeckis and Bob Gale, produced by Steven Spielberg. It grossed 87m domestic and 156m foreign.
0:00: Universal Studios, but it was their 75th anniversary in 1990, so we got a special treat with a collection of their openings. Once again we start off where we left off, this time they do use the same scene, no need for a reshoot this time around.
0:05: Now the movie really gets started back at the Brown Mansion, where Doc is coming back to his senses after being in shock of seeing Marty again.
0:06: I wonder how many times they actually say Back To The Future in these films. They do a good job of trying to catch everyone up to speed about what happened in part 2, with the Doc from 1985 getting sent back to 1885 after he came back to 1955 with Marty after he sent him back to 1985 form 1955, but only after they went to 2015, got it, you, good.
0:08: That's a pretty detailed letter that Doc sends back, gets pretty emotional, still don't understand their relationship, it's still confusing.
0:11: Ok, just remembered another element of this movie that I was never a huge fan of, all the references to Jules Verne and all his books and stuff.
0:12: 1950s shot at Japan, I guess it was still pretty soon after WWII, so whatever
0:13: Ok, so turns out Doc gets killed by Biff's grandfather only a week after he wrote the letter, so now Marty is gonna go back to get save him, and there's your plot of part 3.
0:16: I don't know about this western gear, not sure that's what the 50's view would have been of the west gear, looks more like the 80s version.
0:18: It's interesting that Marty was concerned about crashing into the Indians which shouldn't have been there, but then ended up actually being there, but yet there was never any concern about crashing into the movie theater in the first movie.
0:20: There are lots of elements of this movie that mirror the first one, much more then the 2nd one did. He rips the fuel line, which causes the car not to be able to run, much like the whole needing 1.21 gigawahtts. He has the picture that he keeps looking at and keeps changing.
0:22: "Mom? Mom, is that you?" once again, although this time it's not actually his mom, it's his great great grandmother I guess. He's Clint Eastwood instead of Calvin Klein.
0:25: Ok, so Michael J Fox ends up only playing 2 roles in this film, down from the 5 he played in the last one.
0:27: Another thing that was different about this movie as opposed to the other 2 that I was not a huge fan of was they changed the main music and had it have a western theme for a lot of the movie instead of the normal music we all knew and loved.
0:30: "Hey McFly, I thought I told you to never come in here"
0:32 No better way to get out a sticky situation then to do the moonwalk.
0:33 Another chase scene through Hill Valley, although this time around things actually don't go so great for Marty, he almost gets hung, but with a little help from Doc, he gets out of it.
0:38: That is a pretty ridiculous contraption in order just to make ice, but hey if you want iced tea in 1885 guess you have to do something.
0:39: Ok, so if the Doc knew that the fastest horse in the world could only run 35-40 miles, why did they even bother to try.
0:42: Marty always has issues thinking fourth dementionally, you would have figured that after traveling through time as many times as he has now, he would have figure this stuff out by now.
0:43: And Clara Clayton makes her first appearance and the love affair between her and Doc begins.
0:46: Oh man, Doc wrecked history, way to go man.
0:47: Really, those walkie talkies are still working in 1885, that's ridiculous, even when I had those they would only work for a little bit and then break.
0:48: This plan to get the car up to 88mph seems a bit more reasonable then the plan from the first movie that involved lightning and lots of timing, whereas this one they just need to get it going fast enough before the end of the tracks.
0:51: Nice job that they do in showing the introduction of the clock for the clock tower, since that has played a huge part in the franchise.
0:52: Pretty strange to see ZZ Top not wearing sunglasses.
0:53: Man, Doc ends up being quite the player, who would have guessed. I guess it took for him to get sent back to 1885.
0:54: Well, they did a good job of establishing that Marty is a good shot, they showed it when he was playing Wild Gunman in the 2nd movie, but ultimately what was the point, he never shoots anyone.
0:56: Kinda disappointing that Stickland doesn't call anyone a slacker in this movie. Also a lack of Libyans in this movie.
0:58: "Well, lookie what we have here." guess it runs in the family. Is there really some kind of gun that if you got shot with it, it could take 2 days to kill you.
0:59: So, in this movie he doesn't like being called Yella, it's just a good thing that he didn't call him a Yella Chicken.
1:00: "I'll hunt you down and shot you like a duck."
1:03: Ok, so Marty had a great great great uncle, i guess it would be named Martin cause he didn't like people calling him a coward and got killed in a fight. I also just realized something, so Lea Thompson is playing his great great grandmother, but that doesn't make sense, cause she's a McFly, not a Baines, so does that mean there was some inbreeding going on?
1:05: Doc even had the breakfast contraption set up in 1885, what a scientist this guy was. So, Marty is named Clint Eastwood, so then why did he quote Robert Deniro from Taxi Driver?
1:08: Uh, oh, Doc spilled the beans a little big about the car accident that he got into which was reference in part 2, but if he knows, won't he know not to do it, I mean why doesn't Doc just tell him, after all remember what happened with the Libyans.
1:13: This whole Doc-Clara relationship really bogs down this movie, it's just not interesting and takes away from the film, that's just my opinion.
1:16: Well, a broken hearted man turning to the bottle, sounds about right. I wonder what happened to the Doc on the 4th of July though, man apparently can't handle his liquor, probably got a little out of control.
1:18: Ok, that's another "Back To The Future" I haven't been counting, but that's a lot of times that they have said it in this movie. I feel like they worked up to it in the first one, and said it just twice, but it's like every other line in this one.
1:19: Man, Doc really can't handle his liquor, he only had one shot of whiskey and it knocked him out, really? Wake up juice, what the hell is that exactly, wonder if it really works.
1:24: The trains a leaving and they ain't on it, they better hurry up with this whole Tannen business.
1:26: So, Marty finally confront Mad Dog, and wouldn't you know he uses a trick out Clint Eastwoods book, which they actually foreshadowed in the 2nd movie when Biff was in the Hot tub with the chicks watching the movie in which he uses a bulletproof vest, nice call back as it were.
1:28: And the icing on the cake, Marty punches Mad Dog and he falls into Manure, and guess what he has to say " I hate manure"
1:32: The train part of this movie is pretty good I guess, makes it a little more interesting then just trying to get the car up to 88mph like in the other movies, although it did fly in the 2nd one, so that was probably cooler.
1:35: Of course here comes Clara to screw everything up, why didn't see just believe him to begin with, could have saved everyone a whole lot of trouble.
1:36: I kinda wonder if it would have actually been possible to get one of these old trains up to 88mph, I have my doubts, but then again I have no idea how fast trains can go. I know they got those like bullet trains that go really fast, but like how fast can a normal train now go?
1:40: Good to see the Hoover board getting used in 1885, seeing as how that thing doesn't even exist now, it would seriously blow everyone's mind away in 1885. But here the thing, why after he gets on the board and gets clara, didn't he just go back to the car, he could have made it, instead went off. Cool explosion though,
1:42: And finally Marty is back in the real 1985, and interesting to note it is now called Eastwood Ravine, cause he assumingly perished in the ravine. And the Delorean is destroyed, kinda sad really, but it was what the Doc wanted, you know cause time travel is too dangerous and everything.
1:44: Note that is clearly not Crispin Glover, but he did have a line, but just stayed in the background, really wonder what his role would have been in these movies had he signed on, would have been totally different movie I would guess.
1:46: Funny that Jennifer thinks it a dream, but Marty kinda ruins that by telling her about Hildale, and there's Flea and Power of :Love is back again. And there is where the car accident would have been that would have ruined his life, and the message is erased.
1:49: A Time traveling Train, well, now I've seen everything. So after all the stuff Doc said about destroying the time machine, time travel is too dangerous, he then of course builds another time machine, i guess probably have a happy ending and to keep it open ended, if they ever did want to do a 4th one.
1:50: You're future isn't written yet, kinda the same sorta message as in T2, no. and of course end it with one more Back To The Future. The End
Ok, so that does it all 3 Back To the Futures, one of the best Trilogies of all time, not exactly sure where I would rank it exactly, but it's got to be up there with Lord of the Rings, the Original Star Wars Trilogy, The Matrix, The Godfather I guess, if you even want to count that, 3rd one shouldn't have happened. I don't know, it's up there.
I will acknowedge that there was a cartoon that sorta continued the story with Doc, Clara, Jules, Vern and Marty traveling through time in the Train, but I never really watched it, and wouldn't really consider it a true continuation of the movie franchise.

I'm not sure if when they originally wrote or made BTTF that there was a plan to do a sequel, but clearly after they success that it had a the box office i was a no brainer to do one, so much so that they made not only 1 but 2 at the same time, not sure if that had ever been done before, but it certainly has been done since, while in theory it make sense, it does bring up 2 issues, first off all, to do 2 movies at the same time take a while, so the first sequel is gonna take a while to come out, that's made up a little bit by the fact that you can just then release the next one right away, however what were to happen if that first sequel did terrible? Well, that doesn't actually matter, cause BTTF2 did do well, not as well as the first, but well enough that a 3rd would be fine. That;s not to say that there wasn't issues though. The biggest issue came in the form of Crispin Glover, who had decided that he was just a big a star as Michael J Fox, so he wanted the same amount of money as him, well the studio didn't feel this way and thought he was crazy, and by the evidence of what happened when he appear on The Late Show with David Letterman, I don't think anyone would blame them for thinking that:
Anyway, ultimately they couldn't come to a deal and Crispin Glover would not appear in the sequels other then in archived stuff from the first movie, this cause many delays as they had to do some rewrites and well, that explains what happens to George McFly throughout most of the movie. Ok, lets get to it.

Directed by Robert Zemeckis, written by Robert Zemeckis and Bob Gale and produced by Steven Spielberg. Took in 118m domestically and 213m in foreign markets. Want to point out that I actually did see this in the theater, at the old Dedham cinema during Christmas vacation, took a break from playing with my brand new Nintendo and Puppy to go see the movie.
0:00: Universal Studios at it again, now one of the things that 80s movies liked to do with the sequels, and this was big with the Rocky movies, they start of the new one with the end of the one before it. No different here, except, they had to reshoot the scene, because Jennifer got replaced by Elisabeth Shue, and Michael J Fox is looking a bit older, plus they also added the extra little bit with Biff. "What the hell is going on here?"
0:04: Ok, so this is supposed to be 2015, I don't know about you, but I don't see there being flying cars in 4 years.Also, they do a pretty quick job of getting rid of that whole thing about the ending of part 1, wasn't very subtle about just showing up out of nowhere in the time machine and taking marty and jennifer into the future, i mean why not just come back in the middle of the night in a field call marty and have him meet you there. Besides seems like he goes on and on about not knowing his future, but yet, here they are trying to stop his kids from being arrested.
0:08: Ok, I really can't see any of these fashions and gadgets coming around in the next 4 years. Power Laces, wearing pants inside out., weird mutlicolored hats. Abolishing all lawyers.
0:11: I don't see Texaco stations existing like that, and I know 3D has come a long way in recent years, but I don't think it's anywhere near where tht Jaws scene is.
0:14: So, here's the problem I have with the Tannens, if Griff is Biff's grandson, then where the generation in between, where is the Tannen that would be Marty's age, we never see him, and I don't know, but in 1985, doesn't seem that Biff is marred and has kids.
0:15: Hey look, it's Frodo, yup little Elijah Wood making his acting debut trying to play Wild Gunman. "You mean you have to use your hands?"
0:17: They establish the whole Chicken angle, Marty doesn't like to be called Chicken, can't blame him.
0:18: Hoverboards, they seem cool, there was actually a rumor around the time that this movie came out that they were real, obviously they are not, and I don't seem them coming into existence in the next 4 years, too bad, that would have been a cool thing to have.
0:21: Little upsetting that this chase doesn't end with someone going into a manure truck, but crashing through the clock tower is pretty good.
0:22: Cubs win World Series, now 22 years ago when this movie came out, I wonder if they thought that we would be closing in on 2015 and the Cubs still haven't won a World Series since 1908, it'll be crazy if that ends up the year that they finally do win, but it's only supposed to be Oct 21, no way even with a sweep, with the current schedule, that the World Series would be over by then.
0:24: Seems pretty interesting that in BTTF right before Doc is supposed to go into the future, he mentioned finding out the winner of the next 25 World Series, but now that Marty wants to do it, it's wrong.
0:25: Now it's established that seeing a different version of yourself can cause the universe to explode, of course the never happens.
0:27: You know it is dangerous to enter the house with no lights on, wish I could program that.
0:28: Another "Mom? Mom is that you?" Want to point out that that George McFly was obviously not played by Crispin Glover.
0:31: I will give credit where credit is due, and that is they got the wall mounted flatscreen widescreen TV right, those do exist, not sure about watching 9 channels at once, but the TV itself works.
0:33: Uh, Oh, Biff stole the DeLorean, that can't be good.
0:34: Flea as Needles, it's interesting that he was in this movie, I mean the Red Hot Chili Peppers hadn't really made it yet, Under The Bridge and Give It Away were still a couple years away.
0:35: MCFLY! I just remember in the theater that was so loud.
0:37: Old Jennifer and Young Jennifer see each other and faint, the universe didn't explode.
0:38: "Better that I devote myself to study the other great mystery of the universe... Women" I hear you Doc.
0:39: Not sure why Marty has to ask if they made it and if they are back, he's gone through time 3 times before, and didn't he notice all the other things disappearing.
0:41: The alternate 1985 is pretty bleak, but to be honest, even in the first movie, they didn't make Hill Valley look at that great in 1985, there were bums sleeping on benches and stuff then too.
0:42: "You look to me like a Slacker" Mr. Strickland was a pretty awesome character, I still don't get why he was an educator, but just seemed to hate kids.
0:43: " Watch where you're going to crazy drunk predestran." Good to see that nothing has changed for that bum,
0:45: This retrospective of Biff Tannen is amazing, I especially love the part where he says "I just want to say one thing: God Bless America."
0:46: Billy Zane with his best line, probably ever "Look Sonny, we can do this the easy way or the hard way." followed by another "Mom? Mom, is that you?" scene.
0:49: I actually like to know a little more about Uncle Joey, why is in in jail, what exactly did he do, another one of those mysteries that never gets explained.
0:50: Well, what happens when you can't get a person to come back to do their role, well, you kill them off of course, so George McFly is dead in this reality.
0:52: So Biff stole Marty's idea about betting on sports with the Sports Almanac.
0:54: This part of the movie confused a lot of people, it was on of the reasons why historically speaking this one isn't as popular as the first one, the timeline gets confusing, personally I like it, not sure about better, but just as much as the first.
0:59: I Love how Biff always has a bunch of bumbling idiots around him, he really is one of the best bad guys in movie history. "Two McFlys with the same gun"
1:01: So noone is freaking out there is a flying DeLorean hovering around the Hotel? Security isn't very good at this hotel apparently. I got to say that if they made a Hotel Casino out of the Hill Valley Courthouse and incorporated the Clock Tower, that would be pretty awesome.
1:03: Alrigfht, well the walkie talkies that Doc gets so they can communictae, they look pretty cheap, pretty sure I had the some ones when I was a kid, they didn't work all that great, if you got more then like 20 feet away from each other they wouldn't work, even really good walkie talkies aren't nearly as good as these ones are suppsed to be.
1:06: "Well, lookie what we have here" They definitely reuse alot of the same line throughout these movies, not sure if that necessarily a good thing or just lazy writing.
1:07: So, once again Biff and Biff see each other and there are no issues, they don't even go into shock or anything, clearly young Biff isn't the brightest guy, so he doesn't even realize it's him.
1:09: So, go ahead and look it up, November 12th, 1955, UCLA won 19-17, the score is accurate, even later when he is listening to the radio and they are saying scores, they are all right, so nice job, could have probably just made stuff up, but they went ahead and got the real scores.
1:11: Why exactly does Biff live with his grandmother anyway, seems like there is more to that story too, what happened to his parents, maybe there was a tragic event and that's why he turned out the way he did.
1:13: Always found it interesting that he's telling Marty to be careful about running into his other self, meanwhile he is in the process of running into his other self, of course once again nothing happens.
1:15: Some of this stuff gets a little confusing, cause like did they reshoot some of this stuff, did the just use the same footage, I'm assuming for a lot of the parts with George McFly, they just used the other stuff, cause obviously Glover wasn't doing it, but they did have the guy that played old George in the future so he could have probably stepped in and did some of it if they needed.

1:19: So like right there, when he goes by his other self and his mom in the car, they must have reshot that cause they wouldn't have had that angle
1:21: Poor Marty, he was chasing after the wrong book the whole time, but George was knocking out biff. but there's another scene that they would have had to film again since it 's from a differnt angle, but then they did throw some of the original scene. "Hey, do you just take his wallet? He just took that guys wallet."
1:23: I like all the little hints that they give about part 3 in this one though, talking about the old west and the time board getting messed up and saying 1885 and that sort of thing.
1:25: " I think he took you wallet. I think he took his wallet."
1:26: So, I;m guessing they had to reshot some of this scene with Marty signing Johnny B Goode, so the question is did he play the guitar this time around, but they definitely interweave some of the original footage with the new stuff, which is interesting cause it's supposed to be one day later, but he looks older then just one day.

1:32: Well, Marty gets the book from Biff, and is able to get away from him as Biff crashes into yet another Manure truck, like I said before, why are there all these manure trucks everywhere?
1:35: Marty burns the book, and everything goes back to the way it's supposed to be, and it's another happy ending, or is it?
1:37: Uh Oh, the DeLorean gets struck by lightning and disappears, but wait a minute it wasn't going 88mph, so why did it disappear?
1:38: Oh right, Joe Flaherty as the western union guy, forgot to mention him as starring, which I guess he doesn't really star, but he's in it longer then Elijah Wood.
1:40: Hey, you know what, I never really thought about this before, but this ending is kinda like the ending to Saw IV, where it's happening at the same time as Saw III and they endings kinda coincide, now granted it's not exactly the same, but sorta. Anyway, Doc is in the Old west, Marty tracks down the 1955 Doc to help him right after he sent the other Marty Back To The Future.
1:43 Always found it interesting how they incorporated scenes from 3 into the end of 2 like that, I know they did something similar with the Matrix, but from what I remember it was after the credits in that one.
Well, that's Part II, like I said I always like this one a lot, not sure If I like it better then the first one, but it's certainly close, might have a little more sentimental value towards this one since I actually saw it in the theaters, but I don't know I like all the time traveling, and stuff. I mean there have been a lot of movies involving time travel, Time Machine, Terminators, Bill & Ted, Time Traveler's Wife, even that new crap with Jake Gyllenhaal, not to mention TV shows like Quantum Leap, but out of all of them I can can say that by far Hot Tub Time Machine is the worst.

Back To The Future
Ok, so before we get into the movie, a little background. Back To The Future, which for now will be referred to as BTTF to save me some time has always been one of my favorite movies since I was a little kid, it along with The Goonies, Gremlins, Pee-Wee's Big Adventure and Teen Wolf were pretty much in a rotation of movies that I would constantly watch. So, with that said some time ago at work, I was taking to someone that at the time I worked with, who is a few years younger then me, I made a reference to BTTF, she had no idea what I was talking about and told me that she had never seen, whihc amazed me for a couple different reasons, first, it's a classic and second it's on TV all the time. Basically the conversation played out something like this: (ignore the first part)
Now maybe this particular co-worker wasn't a good judge of stuff, I also later said something about having "Two Turntables and a Microphone" to wit she had no idea what I was talking about, then I called her a "Loser" which she got mad about, turns out that she had never heard of Beck. But whatever, she's dead to me now, and no not because of the BTTF or Beck things, and to be honest it's more like I'm dead to her based on what I feel was a misunderstanding. None of this really matters, can't imagine she is reading this anyway, she already unfriended me so can't imagine she's reading my blog. Ok, I'm totally getting off track, haven't even started the first movie yet and this is already broken, all of this other crap will be covered in my blog post "My Life As The Office" which I will be posting probably never. Anyway, so the point of the story was, for the younger audience that I have that might not totally be familiar with BTTF, I'm gonna fill you in on why you should be. Also I want to re-educate those of you that for one reason or another don't like BTTF, like another co-worker of mine, although her issue is with Michael J Fox, who she doesn't like, but she also doesn't like Muhammed Ali, I think she just doesn't like people with parkinson's, probably cause she is evil. Anyway, that actually leads to another point, Michael J Fox, despite being the first choice for Marty McFly and wanting to do it, cause of his commitment to Family Ties, almost couldn't do it, and they originally casted Eric Stoltz, now you might be thinking to yourself, Who?, exactly, had he been in the movie, might have been a household name, instead he went on to star as Rocky Dennis in Mask with Cher and then go on to have a bunch of small roles in a bunch of crap. Interesting to also note, that if he were to have been Marty, then the role of Jennifer would have gone to Melora Hardin better know as Jan from The Office, and now I'm back on the office again. Let's just get to the movie already. I got the 25th Anniversary Blu-Ray edition, so it's gonna be a HD expierence.
Back To The Future was released on July 3rd, 1985, which is interesting cause even before the movie started it was messing with the timeline, the events of the movie are supposed to take place on October 25-26, 1985, so when people were going to see it in July it was like they were already watching the future, course when I saw it, it was later on video, so it was like I was watching the past, confused yet? good. The movie starred Michael J Fox, Christopher Lloyd, Crispin Glover, Lea Thompson, Thomas F Wilson, Claudia Wells, James Tolkan, Huey Lewis, Billy Zane and Jason Hervey. Directed by Robert Zemeckis, written by Robert Zemeckis and Bob Gale and produced by Stephen Spielberg. It grossed 210m domestically, 170m internationally. Let's get too it
0:00: Universal Studios, good studios I guess. Stephen Spielberg presents, but really was there anything from that time that he wasn't involved with, seems like he has his name on everyhing. We start off with clocks, makes sense Time travel and all, has alot to do with time as do clocks. Ok, so here's a little something that was happening a lot in 1985 with movies, crazy contraptions that did stupid stuff, Pee-Wee had the Breakfast machine, Goonies had all sorts of things going on, even just to open the gate for Chunk, and here in this movie, Doc has some crap setup to make breakfast and feed the dog, not to mention turn on the TV, which has the Mom from Just the ten of us, letting us in on some of the plot.
0:03: and Marty McFly makes his first appearance, and we get to see him play a guitar reallly loud, seems like there is just way too many knobs and switches for this thing, and that speaker seems a little big, no? The one thing that is never explained, why are these 2 friends, when did Marty and Doc meet, why is Marty even coming over to his place? Also, why is Doc calling his own place, did he know Marty was gonna be there? why?
0:06: Power of Love for the first time, they got a lot of use out of this song. BTTF was one of the first movies that I can remember that really used Product placement, Burger King and the Mountain Dew hat were a little obvious.
0:07: Mr. Strickland, what an ass, what kind of educator would treat a student like that, calling everyone slackers and telling them they won't amount to anything.
0:08: Huey Lewis making his acting debut, telling The Pinheads who are playing his song, they are too loud.
0:09: Ok, so this has always bothered me, the van goes by telling everyone to re-elect Goldie Wilson, it sounds so much like Phil Hartman, but I have never been able to find out it it him or not, oh and by the way. "If you put your mind to it, you can accomplish anything"
0:11: Save The Clock Tower, interesting to note that that Clock Tower, which was actually used in some other movies, was almost burnt down a few years ago when there was a big fire at the Universal Studios lot.
0:12: Biff and George McFly make their first appearances. Biff is a great character, probably the best character in the whole franchise, "Hello, anyone home? Think McFly, Think." He has great quotes. "Shoe's untied, don't be so gullable McFly." I do have one issue with Biff, but I'll ge to that later
0:14: Tons more product placement here, Diet Pepsi, Bud Light, just seems so blatant, like all the labels perfectly pointed at the camera, whatever.
0:18: Once again, what the hell is this relationship that Marty is going to a mall at 1 in the morning to meet the Doc, I would love to know the back story here.
0:19: The DeLoreon, I guess you could consider this product placement, but I think they were actually making fun of it, plus the company had already gone out of business by this time.
0:21: I wonder how they came up with 88mph, guess it seemed like it was fast, but not too fast. I don't know, can't imagine there is actually any scientific reasoning for it.
0:22: Ok, one of the biggest issues with this movie, why did they never fix the fire marks, it looks like Doc is standing right on top of the first, shouldn't it be between his legs, couldn't they have fixed that in editing? I mean I'm fine with them leaving it as it is now, don't need to go all Star Wars or anything, but really, everyone was just like "Eh, that's fine, it's not even noticeable"
0:25: November 5th, 1955, the day Doc visioned the Flux Capacitor, which somehow by flashing makes time travel possible, not totally sure how, what the hell does it actually do? Great name though, Flux Capacitor.
0:27: Is this stuff with the plutonium accurate, do those suits actually do anything?
0:29 The Libyans!!! Still topical, whether it's the 80s with BTTF, 90s with In The Army Now or today, Libyans always make for great bad guys. Want to note that when I was younger, whenever I saw one of those VW vans, I always thought there were Libyans in it and I would get scared and run away from it, chances are that if it wasn't Libyans, it was probably Hippies, so either way it was probably a good idea to run.
0:32: Ok, so imagine you are these people seeing this thing from the future crash into your barn, that would be pretty messed up, I don't blame them for flipping out. "Take that you mutated Son of a bitch."
0:35: Mr. Sandman, bring me a dream. Were the 50s actually like this? 4 guys running out when you pull up to a gas pump? Everyone wearing Suits and hats and stuff
036: The Clock Tower, it works, ain't that something.
0:37: This Diner scene is a great scene, Marty sitting next to his Dad, Biff coming in with some awesome lines, "You Irish Bug" plus Billy Zane, he's a cool dude, Then Marty realizing that it's his Dad.
0:40: "A Colored Mayor, that'll be the day" Lot of not so subtle racism in this movie, was that just a reflection of the 50s?
0:42: Ok, so interesting not, the street that they used to film the scene where Marty gets hit by the car saving his dad, was the same street that they also used for scenes in Teen Wolf, Michael J Fox loved that street, he actually bought up all the property around it and turned it into a shrine, don't believe me, look it up, I'll wait... ha, ha made you look it up, yeah that part isn't true.
0:43: First "Mom? Mom, it that you?" this would become a reoccuring theme in the series. Calvin Klein's no friend of mine, don't want nobody's name on my behind. Marty, purple underwear? I know it was the 80s, but still.
0:46: Jason Hervey making his appearance, this role wasn't as good as his role in Pee-Wee, and obviously he would go on to be Wayne Arnold.
0:47: "He's an Idiot, come from upbringing, his parents are probably idiots too."
0:50: Interesting that Ronald Regan being the president in 1985 would seem so crazy in 1955, but I guess if you went back to like 1988 and told everyone that Arnold Schwarzenegger would be governor of California, it would seem pretty crazy to them too.
0:52: Seems pretty crazy that in 1955 they would be able to hook up the camera to the video, but i guess Doc is a scientist, so he could figure something out "1.21 GIGAWATTS" wonder where they came up with that number too, wonder if that is accurate in any way to Plutonium or lighting or something.
0:55: "Next Saturday night, we are sending you BACK TO THE FUTURE" got to love when they work the title into the movie.
0:56: "Erased from existence."
0:57: "You're A Slacker, you want to be a slacker for the rest of your life?" George McFly was a pretty big dork, and people loved to pick on him, Crispin Glover really did fit that role well, he's kinda a whacko.
0:58: Doc raises an interesting question, why does Marty keep saying things are "Heavy" I don't really remember that ever being something that people said other then in this movie.
1:00: Biff loves saying Butt-head in this movie, was that something people said alot in the 50s, I mean sure, I said it alot cause of this move and then Beavis and Butt-Head, but when did that become a thing? "Now why don't you make like a tree and get out of here."
1:02: A little Eddie Van Halen to wake you up. "Last night Darth Vader came down form Planet Vulcan and told me if I didn't take Lorraine out, that he'd melt my brain." So many good lines in this movie. For instance, like " Lou, give me a Milk, chocolate." and then "Lorraine, my density has popped me to you." also " Yes, yes, I'm George, George McFly, I'm your density, I mean your destiny."

1:09: This whole plan to get Marty Back to the Future seems way to ridiculous to actually work, i mean in order for to work, would you need to test it out with a real car and real lightning a bunch of times, i mean, sure it's a movie, whatever, but seriously.
1:14: "Hey you, get your damn hands off her. You really think I oughta swear?"
1:15: It would be kinda weird is someone from the future did come back and tell you a bunch of stuff about what happens to you in the future, like would you want to know, I mean I guess I would want to know if I was gonna be shot by terrorist, but if I already knew everything, I don't know, it would be weird, cause there's no way that because you know, you wouldn't do something to change it, maybe not on purpose per se, but somehow
1:17: This whole scene in the car with Marty and his Mom, imagine this, that would be the most awkward situation to ever be in, i mean, completely unrealistic, but i guess maybe it would be the equivilant of going on a date with someone and maybe finding out that they were your long lost sibling or something, I don't know.
1:20: "Well, lookie what we have here."
1:21: Some great lines in that exchange, "I don't want to mess with no refer addicts" Never really noticed that the car is filled with smoke before.
1:22: Anyone else bothered by the fact that Biff is forcing himself on Lorraine her, I mean, that's not right, I realize that Biff is the bad guy here, but what would have happened if George hadn't come around then and punched him out?
1:25: I wonder if Michael J Fox could actually play the guitar or else did they just have him fake this part, cause when he's doing Johnny B Goode, I don't think that's him, certianly not him singing. The whole hand disappearing thing looked kinda cool at the time, now it looks totally fake.
1:27: Ok, so what made him think to do Johnny B Goode, just so they could make the Marvin/Chuck Berry joke? Now, when they inevitably remake this movie, and you know at some point they will, lets say in 2015, so 30 year later, and lets say they keep the same general plot, so he goes back to 1985, and lets say they include this type of scene, what do you think would be the song that chose to use? I don't know, haven't been able to figure that one out, maybe like Guns N Roses, or Nirvana or something.

1:33: Still don't understand this relationship, I'm not sure that Doc from the past totally gets it either, he seems like he's still trying to figure out why they would even know each other.
1:34: Great Scott, the cable came off, so not only is the idea that this whole thing would actually work far fetched, but just throw another element in there to make it more improbable, eventhough you know it's gonna work out.
1:36: I wonder if the riming of this movie is actually accurate, he does say some precise times and stuff, wonder if you time it out, it actually works. Speaking of time, antother thing that really bothers me, he says if he goes back 10 minutes early, he'll have enough time, but he sets the clock for 11 minutes earlier? Like what the hell, noone noticed that, could have been an easy fix. but also, why would he cut it so close, if you really wanted to save him, go back like 30 minutes earlier or something. I guess that would have set up the senario where he might have ran into his other self and created a paradox in the space time continuium that would have destroyed the universe, but at this point they hadn't been over that.
1:41: So the lighning strikes, he gets to 88mph, the flux capacitor fluxes and he goes back to the future, not that there was gonna be anything else that would have happened, but imagine that it didn't work. The other thing though, he then crashes into the movie theater, "Crazy Drunk Driver" I mean I guess there was no way to avoid it, but that seemed like an oversite by them.
1:43: So, I guess since the Libyans pass him, had the car not stalled, he would have had time to warn Doc, but not really, they came along not much longer after, didn't help that he then fell down that hill for some reason.
1:45: It's not a very convincing arguement for why he went against his word and read the note. " I figured what the hell?" really, that's it? Also don't understand why he changed his mind to fo 30 years instead of 25 like he originally said.
1:47: Why is his alarm set for 10:28? but more Huey Lewis, his other song on the soundtrack is played "Back In Time" and is brother works on Saturdays? but clearly goes in late.
1:48: So clearly this doesn't use the butterfly effect theory that all the memories that would have changed based on what happened get inputed into his brain.
1:50: This final scene is interesting cause then it becomes the first scene in the 2nd movie, but they of course had to redo it, but it's basically the exact same other then Jennifer being a different actress.
1:51: "Roads, where we're going, we don't need roads." So, interesting to note that this version doesn't say anything at the end, which I guess was how it originally ended in the theaters, but when the release it to video and knew they were gonna do a sequel, they added "To Be Continued"
Well, there you have it, the first Back To The Future still one of my favorite movies of all time. I think that was probably my 114th time watching it, that number might not be right, but I wouldn't doubt it. Back to the Future is probably also one of the most referenced films or franchises in pop culture, or atleast in my lifetime, The Godfather and Star Wars franchise probably are ahead of it, but even just recently they referenced it to open up the Oscars and also Modern Family just had something referencing it a couple weeks ago. Family Guy has pretty much reference every scene at this point, The music is iconic, everything about it screams classic, and other then some of the clothes and stuff, it still holds up pretty well I say. Ok, that was fun, now let's move on to Part II
Now maybe this particular co-worker wasn't a good judge of stuff, I also later said something about having "Two Turntables and a Microphone" to wit she had no idea what I was talking about, then I called her a "Loser" which she got mad about, turns out that she had never heard of Beck. But whatever, she's dead to me now, and no not because of the BTTF or Beck things, and to be honest it's more like I'm dead to her based on what I feel was a misunderstanding. None of this really matters, can't imagine she is reading this anyway, she already unfriended me so can't imagine she's reading my blog. Ok, I'm totally getting off track, haven't even started the first movie yet and this is already broken, all of this other crap will be covered in my blog post "My Life As The Office" which I will be posting probably never. Anyway, so the point of the story was, for the younger audience that I have that might not totally be familiar with BTTF, I'm gonna fill you in on why you should be. Also I want to re-educate those of you that for one reason or another don't like BTTF, like another co-worker of mine, although her issue is with Michael J Fox, who she doesn't like, but she also doesn't like Muhammed Ali, I think she just doesn't like people with parkinson's, probably cause she is evil. Anyway, that actually leads to another point, Michael J Fox, despite being the first choice for Marty McFly and wanting to do it, cause of his commitment to Family Ties, almost couldn't do it, and they originally casted Eric Stoltz, now you might be thinking to yourself, Who?, exactly, had he been in the movie, might have been a household name, instead he went on to star as Rocky Dennis in Mask with Cher and then go on to have a bunch of small roles in a bunch of crap. Interesting to also note, that if he were to have been Marty, then the role of Jennifer would have gone to Melora Hardin better know as Jan from The Office, and now I'm back on the office again. Let's just get to the movie already. I got the 25th Anniversary Blu-Ray edition, so it's gonna be a HD expierence.
Back To The Future was released on July 3rd, 1985, which is interesting cause even before the movie started it was messing with the timeline, the events of the movie are supposed to take place on October 25-26, 1985, so when people were going to see it in July it was like they were already watching the future, course when I saw it, it was later on video, so it was like I was watching the past, confused yet? good. The movie starred Michael J Fox, Christopher Lloyd, Crispin Glover, Lea Thompson, Thomas F Wilson, Claudia Wells, James Tolkan, Huey Lewis, Billy Zane and Jason Hervey. Directed by Robert Zemeckis, written by Robert Zemeckis and Bob Gale and produced by Stephen Spielberg. It grossed 210m domestically, 170m internationally. Let's get too it
0:00: Universal Studios, good studios I guess. Stephen Spielberg presents, but really was there anything from that time that he wasn't involved with, seems like he has his name on everyhing. We start off with clocks, makes sense Time travel and all, has alot to do with time as do clocks. Ok, so here's a little something that was happening a lot in 1985 with movies, crazy contraptions that did stupid stuff, Pee-Wee had the Breakfast machine, Goonies had all sorts of things going on, even just to open the gate for Chunk, and here in this movie, Doc has some crap setup to make breakfast and feed the dog, not to mention turn on the TV, which has the Mom from Just the ten of us, letting us in on some of the plot.
