The Sawathon continues with SAW II released on October 28th, 2005, Starring Tobin Bell, Shawnee Smith, Dorchester's own Donnie Wahlberg of NKOTB fame, Beverley Mitchell of 7th Heaven fame, and then a whole bunch of people I never heard of before or since. Directed by Darren Lynn Bousman. This was actually the most successful Saw movie at the box office grossing 87m domestic and 147m worldwide on a little bit bigger of a budget of 4m.
00:00: Twisted Pictures, don't really know too much about them, pretty much just horror films I guess, kinda a cool logo I guess.
00:05: Seems like starting with Saw II they would start these movies off with someone stuck in a trap that didn't really end up having anything major to do with the actual story, I'm guessing they did this cause they wanted the gore factor to go up, and someone probably just had an idea for some trap and wanted to get it in the movie.
00:10: The one thing that's always been a major thing with sequels to horror films as opposed to action films or dramas or whatever, most of the people from the previous movie is dead, so they have to introduce a whole new set of people and they have to develop their characters, so they can get a bit repetitive.
00:13: Ok, so clearly for the 2nd movie, they took from the first movie what creeped people out the most and used it more for the 2nd one, that Doll is all over the place so far in this one.
00;15: If within 15 minutes of the start of a movie, they catch the killer, generally speaking, it's probably a common rule that they wanted to get caught.
00:20: Amanda re-appears, which will become significant part of the movie, but here's the thing that I don't really get, none of these people know who the hell she is, why would she be so open about everything?
00:24: If there is a key that says don't use this key on the door, then you use the key on the door and you get shot in the face cause you did, well then you are an idiot.
00:25: These Donnie Wahlberg-Tobin Bell scenes are riveting
00:30: Biggest problem I had with this movie certainly in comparison with the first one, there are just way to many people kidnapped, I guess I could see the point of it, they wanted to have a bunch of people to kill off, but it just takes away from getting to know the characters, other then Amanda and Donnie's son, why would I care about the rest of the people. In the first one, I cared about the kidnapped characters, I got to know them, these people are like whatever.
00:35: So, after making the Obi-Won joke in the last movie about Ben, totally forgot that there is actually a character named Obi in this movie.
00:40: Now, I was never really what you would call a 7th Heaven fan, but I did occasionally watch the show cause well Jessica Biel was on it and she's pretty hot, but Beverley Mitchell was not bad either, she tended to get overshadowed a bit. Always thought it was kinda funny in that show how in real life Beverley Mitchell is older then Jessica Biel, but Biel played the older sister.
00:45: I wonder how in these movies and really any horror movie do they establish how people are gonna get killed. Like do they have a retreat and just think up crazy ways for people to die, seems a bit crazy.
00:50: Unlike the first movie, since they wanted to keep who the killer was a surprise, this is the movie where they really started to establish the character of Jigsaw
00:52: Got to imagine being thrown into a pit of syringes would suck, doubt that was part of the plan.
00:55: It seems like the show 1000 Way To Die might have been started based on some of this stuff, just cause while obviously these deaths are fake, alot of the deaths in that show seem pretty ridiculous much like these and also seem to happen to terrible people all the time, much like these movies.
01:00: Oooh, twist, so all these people were set up and sent to jail by Donnie and now they are all in a house with his son, but they are dying, who exactly is this whole thing supposed to be about then?
01:05: So, the mexican dude had to put a spiked baseball bat in the back of the head of the black dude just to see what the number on the back of his head was. Why not just as him to turn around for a second.
01:10: Donnie broke jigsaw's finger pretty easily there, and man that device with the blades cutting the chicks arms when she tries to take them out, damn that looks like it would hurt like hell. But too be honest, why would you even think about putting your arms into a thing like that? I realize the antidote was in there, but just look at the thing.
01:15: Well that was pretty lucky that the guy who had the key you needed just happened to be killed in the room that you were trapped in and needed the key in. Strange how things like that always happen in movies
01:17: Oh, another twist, it was the same place that the bathroom was that the first saw took place.
01:19: The Mexican guy cuts off the skin on the back of his neck to figure out what the number is, that's pretty impressive. and to even know exactly where it is, that's risky.
01:20: Uh Oh, wrong house, Silence of the Lambs anyone? Also not live, tricky stuff, won't be the last time that they mess with the timeline in the series.
01:23: His son was at the original place all along, should have just listen to jugsaw and stayed there and talked to him, but now he is trapped him that same bathroom, thanks to Amanda, who was working with jigsaw the whole time, which is a decent twist.
01:27: Ending was a bit misleading there, which whatever, horror films always have misleading endings, makes it seem that Jigsaw was dead and Amanda was taking over, but we will soon see that is not the case. Mudvayne - Forget to Remember, another good credit song.
Ok, first one is definitely better, now on to Saw III
