SAW III

Now we are getting into the middle portion of the Sawathon, getting a little tougher, but we are pressing on. SAW III released October 27th, 2006. Starring Tobin Bell, Shawnee Smith, Costas Manylor and Donnie Walhberg and Leigh Whannell make appearances, and then once again a bunch of people that I've never heard of before or again. Directed once again by Darren Lynn Bousman. This was the 2nd most successful at the box office domesticallly grossing 80m domestically and actually did better worldwide then II with 160m on a huge budget of 10m, well huge when compared to the first 2.

00:00: From what I remember I enjoyed this one not as much as 1 but more than 2, So, let's see if that holds true

00:05 Well then, we start where we left off, with Donnie locked up in the bathroom, which I totally forgot about, he instead of using a saw, smashes his leg in order to fit it through the chain, I guess that's all well iand good, but the name of the movie is Saw, and while that had already been done, haven't really seem many Saws other than in the first one. Interesting note to this, apparently after Saw II, the set for the bathroom got destroyed or something, in Scary Movie 4 they did a spoof of Saw and made a set, Dr. Phil and Shaq were involved. So, then when they went to film SAW III, they ended up having to use the set from Scary Movie 4.

00:07: First appearance of Mark Hoffman, he will become a significant part of the story eventually, but much like Amanda in the first one, they introduce him slowly at first.

00:09: Random first kill of the movie, like I was talking about at the beginning of the last movie, doesn't seem to be connected to anything, but who is doing the killing? Seems awkward, might not be the real jigsaw.

00:14: Creepy Doll is back for more, they probably should have done some sort of spin-off series just staring that doll, that would have freaked a lot of people out.

00:17: While it certainly establishes that the characters are some sick people making these extremely elaborate and brutal traps for the games, the fact that someone actually did think it up for the movie, that's actually pretty scary.

00:20: Meet Lynn, she has a big of a prescription medicine addiction, her family it falling apart, she works at the hospital where jigsaw was originally, and she will be one of our participants in the movies game.

00:24: So, Jigsaw is not dead, so the mislead at the end of 2 was not accurate. Shocker.

00:28: The other major subject in this game is Lynn's husband, Jeff, and see, that's what makes this a more interesting movie then 2, you got these 2 people that you can now and learn about and actually have a reason to care about them, unlike in 2 where there are way too many people to keep track off and learn about, But they do use an interesting was to get people involved that they can kill off, but we'll get to that later.

00:37: Well, they are cleary establishing Amanda to be a psycho in this film,

00:40: It's interesting to see what exactly the original plan was, was there ever plans to be sequels at all, or was it only ever meant to be one and done, cause it just seems that while Jigsaw is certainly an interesting character and it's cool to have the story keep going, but giving him cancer right off the bat, while obviously critical to the plot of the films, the fact that we are only in the 3rd movie and we already thought he died in 2, and is now having some serious issues in this one, how long were they planning to string him along. They do end up doing a lot more back story and messing with some timelines to have it work, but wouldn't have been better if they hadn't just had him on his deathbed so early.

00:45: Ok, so here is the thing that I thought was well done in this movie to be able to keep the kills up, but not to have to have too many main characters that you can't keep track off or that you don't care about, Have random people that are somehow connected to the main character already set up in traps, works well, I say,

00:51: Oh great, the origin of the creepy doll, and the creating of the Amanda trap. Which is actually something that I really enjoyed about some of these films is that they do tie everything together pretty well, might not be for 2 or 3 movies down the line, but they do tie stuff together.

00:59: Out of all the saw traps that there have been, this one right now, where the judge is locked up in the bottom of a vat, while pig are being slaughtered and all the crap is being dropped in the vat, that's probably the worst one there is. However the guy is saved, from that anyway, so maybe it's not all bad.

01:05: Nothing like a little brain surgery to lighten up a horror movie.

01:10 - Good job of establishing more back story on Amanda, as well as how they set up the whole game for the first Saw, which, like I said before I really liked about this movie, cause it gave you more of a sense on how exactly the first move all came togehter, which for obvious reasons they never did in the first 2, cause they wanted to have the surprises. And once again, apparently not the original set, but the Scary Movie 4 set

01:20: Even more back story on what exactly happened with Adam after Saw, Amanda ended up finishing him off, I wonder if that was a big criticism of the 2nd movie that they didn't really explain enough about what happened after the first 1 or something, cause it just seems that they really went out of there way to explain all that in this movie, it's basically half the movie.

01:28: Alright, well I guess the rack thing that twist all your limbs is pretty damn bad too, clearly I wouldn't want to be in any of these traps, they are all pretty bad.

01:30: Amanda is clearly in love with Jigsaw and is now jealous of Lynn, why did this become a chick flick for no reason.

01:34: Now they go into what happene after the end of Saw 2, and explains what happened with Donnie, but not completely, gotta leave some stuff open ended, for the next sequel.

01:40: Well, the twist in this one wasn't exactly great, the test was for Amanda instead of Lynn or Mark, not a great twist, but I did enjoy the explaining of the first movie.

01:46: Yup, it's appropriate that jigsaw was ultimately killed by a saw, or was he?

01:47: Forgot about the twist about the daughter being kidnapped, but still that's not a great twist, guess it establishes something good for the next one. Not really sure what the point was of showing random pictures of stuff from the series at the end like that, i mean what did Ben Linus have to do with anything in that movie.

Ok, gonna take a little break now, get some food, probably watch the NHL All-Star skills competition, might be back later, or not, we shall see. next up is SAW IV, whenever I do.
