30 is the new 25

So, we are only a few hours away from MTV turning 30, and in honor of this VH1 Classic has been doing a marathon of just random old stuff, it's been interesting from what I've seen so far, but it's kinda all over the place and they are only showing certain clips. For instance they started showing an episode of Remote Control when the Red Hot Chili Peppers showed up and kick the contestants out cause they wanted to play, but then they only showed the first segment, then went to commercial and when they came back it was some Jenny McCarthy show thing, I was upset I wanted to see the rest of that Remote Control episode. Anyway, tonight at midnight they are gonna re-air the original 1st hour of programming that they first showed 30 years ago. It is kinda interesting that this stuff is all relegated to VH1 Classic, guess it makes sense since it is classic stuff, but it's MTV and shouldn't the original MTV be the one airing the original launch, guess they have too many crappy reality shows they they have to show replays of for the millionth time this week, or so everyone can get all caught up for the new season of Jersey Shore, and I can get ready to hang myself because of it. Anyway, they did actually show a clip from a show that debuted in 1998, that I was actually a big fan of and that was Celebrity Death Match, don't remember it, well here is a clip:
Yeah, it was a pretty good show, wrestling was getting pretty big again at the time and people really enjoyed making fun of celebrities, and Mills Lane was pretty popular because of his involvement in the Mike Tyson vs Evander Holyfield ear biting fight.

Another show debuted in 1998 on MTV, which I kinda discussed in the previously, and that was TRL, basically, this brought a whole bunch of new crappy pop music to all the teeny poppers, but it also got a lot of bands to change up style and try and get their stuff on TRL. So, 1998 was the start of the TRL era, which brought us groups like N'Sync:
Backstreet Boys took it to a new level:
These 2 groups wound then spawn like 20 others over the next 5 years or so, and they all were trying to get on TRL. TRL also helped this next 2 bands vault their popularity in 1998:
and George Michael helped this next band ruin rock for a while:
Marilyn Manson was back, and this time moreso just confusing people other then scaring people although he was probably still scaring a lot of people also:
Fatboy Slim had people repeating themselves with this hit:
Green Day had a huge hit in 1998, despite the fact that it was completely misinterpreted, it was meant to be sarcastic, but people didn't get it, probably because of Seinfeld:
Yeah, the song which is called Good Riddance (Time of You're Life) and it was written about song girl that Billy Joe broke up with, but with the Seinfeld thing and then it sorta because a Graduation song, the single actually came out as Time Of Your Life (Good Riddance) guess since it was getting plenty of airplay and whatever, Green Day didn't really care all that much:

Also back on the scene with a new album in 1998 was The Offspring, they kinda took a new direction with their first single though:

Metallica were a little tired of making their own music, so they released a whole bunch of covers, including this one:
Rob Zombie had broken away from White Zombie and released his first solo album:
Aerosmith had their first and only number 1 hit:
Will Smith was still doing his Big Willie Style thing:
2Pac despite being dead, had a big hit thanks in part to Bruce Hornsby:
For whatever reason in 1998, female singers felt the need to start thanking everyone, Natalie Merchant was thanking everyone:
and Alanis Morrisette was Thanking everyone too, and for some reason she was doing it while being naked:
So, with that, just want to thank you for reading, cause you are My Hero:
Can't believe MTV is 30, more so cause I can't believe I'm gonna be 30 in a couple months, but hey, it's gotta happen sometime I guess. BTW, totally bought the new CM Punk shirt today, that thing is pretty awesome, forgot to mention in my last post he changed his song up, Cult of Personality is a great song, apparently he used it back in his Ring Of Honor days and wanted to bring it back, and surprisingly WWE were ok with it.

And lastly, some words of advice, whenever you use the phrase "I got nothing to lose" or some variation of it, be prepared to find out what you actually did have to lose, cause you will find out.
