Hey Bud-dy!

So, you may or not remember, but a while ago I mentioned on the blog, that there were some rumblings about doing a Pauly Shore Marathon day, well yesterday was that day, I was thinking about doing a running diary for it, but that didn't happen, but I am now here to give you the full recap.

A little background before we get started, a few weeks ago on the trip down to NYC, my bud-dies Mike and Matt and I for some reason started talking about Shawshank Redemption, don't remember exactly why, but anyway, that lead to a discussion about how that and The Godfather always go back and forth for the top spot on the IMDB top 250. I then pulled up the list and were went through it, on the flip side of that, we then decided to go through the bottom 100, which brought up, the question of how many Pauly Shore movies were on that list, so we just started to name Pauly Shore movies and decided we needed to have a Pauly Shore Day. Surprisingly there are actually no Pauly Shore movies on the bottom 100.

The first movie up was In The Army Now, the 1994 movie starring Pauly Shore, Andy Dick, David Alan Grier and Lori Petty with a brief appearance by Brendan Fraser as Officer Link. Grossed $28m domestically, so not terrible. This movie is not good, but not terrible, Andy Dick hadn't become super annoying yet by this point. The plot for this one is pretty simple, Pauly Shore with the name Bones in this one, and Andy Dick want to open a store, but lost their jobs, so they decide to join the Army Reserves to get some money, then then of course get called up to active duty, and actually have to go to fight against Libya, so it's still topical today. They then get lost in the desert and everyone else gets killed or something, and they end up having to save the day, and Pauly Shore of course is the one to save the day, there are mischief and hi-jinks, and in the end Pauly and Andy get their Store. Decent start, the best and worst were yet to come...

Next up, the 1996 Film, Bio-Dome. starring Pauly Shore, Stephen Baldwin, Joey Lauren Adams, Kylie Minogue, the dude from Die Hard/Ghostbusters, the old guy from The 'Burbs who lives next to Tom Hanks and kills people, and brief appearances by Rose McGowen and Tenacious D. Good God, this movie is terrible, by far the worst movie of the day, just awful. Little bit of trivia, when the script was first being written, this was supposed to be Bill & Ted 3, but then Keanu Reeves did a movie called Speed, and well, he turned that down, so they rewrote some of it and got Pauly Shore and the rest is history. Interesting this is that this came out after The Usual Suspects, so what the hell Stephen Baldwin? The Plot to this one, there's a Bio-Dome, Shore, who's name in this one is Bud, but has a nickname of squirrely for some reason, and Baldwin, are gay, or just seem that way, but they have girlfriends who are environmentalist, and somehow they get locked in a Bio-Dome for a year, this of course mischief and hi-jinks, the dude from die hard/ghostbusters goes crazy and tries to blow it up, Shore and Baldwin have to stop him, they do, another happy ending. Just awful.

For the next selection we decided to go in a different direction and check out the 2003 mockumentary film Pauly Shore is Dead. I don't think it was ever in the theaters, and the version that I found was a promotional screener, and would go black and white, and had stuffed blurred out and stuff, but that's all I could find. Anyway, once again, pretty topical, starts off with Pauly Shore talking with none other then Charlie Scheen. So, basically, there are a bunch of cameos by people saying how much Pauly Shore sucks, then he fakes his death so that people will feel bad for him or something, they then find out, he has to go to jail, but some dude tries to kill him. It does feature the other mian guy from the 'Burbs that is not Tom Hanks, he'll be back for more later. Anyway, something happens, he gets out of jail, Ben Stiller got blackmailed, I don't know, the parts will people just talking about him were pretty good, the movie story part sucked, but there it was.

Then we took a break for a while, ate some food watch some Basketball, geared up for the 2nd half of the Marathon and started that part off with:

The 1992 movie Encino Man, starring Pauly Shore, Sean Astin, Brendan Fraser, the Dad that was also the dad in License to Drive, that other guy from The 'Burbs and Rose McGowen in her first movie role. It grossed 40m.This is probably the best Pauly Shore movie, mostly because while he is certainly heavily featured in it, he's not the star, so it's not just all him, which is good. This was also classic Pauly Shore: Nugs, Chillin and grindage. The Weasel at his none sensical best. Anyway, plot of this film, Astin and Shore, who's name in this one is Stoney, are kinda high school losers, Astin is in love with this girl that he knew growing up, but she's going out with the cool, jock douchebag. So, Astin is trying to dig a pool in his backyard to become cool and impress her, there's an earthquake, they find a frozen man, it's Brendan Fraser, he's a caveman, they name him Link and try and teach him stuff, more mischief and hi-jinks, there's a prom, the douche finds out he's a caveman and outs him, noone cares, Link beats him up, Link, Pauly and Astin become popular, Astin gets the girl, there's a dance sequence, and then Fraser's cavewomen wife is unthawed. Another Happy Ending. Interesting note, at some point someone mentioned that they should have had the caveman be a women and have it be Encino Women, somehow I knew that that had already happened, I then proceeded to stab myself in the arm with a fork for knowing that. This was my pick for the best movie, but there was some debate that the next one was the best...

The 1993 movie Son-In-Law, starring Pauly Shore, Carla Gugino, The Coach of the Hawk from Mighty Duck AKA the Procecuder form My Cousin Vinny, The fat redhead kid from Big Green and Sandlot and Tiffani Amber Thiessen. It grossed 36m at the box office. Pauly Shore in the one named Crawl plays a RA at a college in LA, Carla Gugino plays Becca, who grew up on a farm in South Dakota, and has a boyfriend, but decides to go to school in LA, meets shore, he helps her change her image and then comes back for Thanksgiving and brings Shore with her. So, Becca's boyfriend is gonna propose to her, she doesn't want that, Shore pretends that they are already engaged, Mischief and hi-jinks, including a lot of farming stuff, which I had a little bit of an issue with. It's South Dakota, it's the end of November, shouldn't it be pretty cold there, is there that much farming going on at that time, like what the hell? I don't know, anyway Shore and Becca end up falling for each other for real, the boyfriend ends up being a douche, Happy Ending. An Finally...

Now, unfortunately by the time we got around to watching Jury Duty, everyone else bailed on me only a few minutes into the movie, probably a good idea by them, but I don't like leave things unfinished, so I watched most of it by myself. It came out in 1995 and grossed 17m, it stars Pauly Shore, Tia Carrere, Brian Doyle-Murray, Abe Vigoda, Charles Napier, The Other Guy from the 'Burbs, The Jump to Conclusions Map guy from Office Space and the Car Attendant from Ferris Bueller's Day Off. There was also a cameo from Dick Vitale, so that was timely, his head blew up for some reason. This move was really bad, not as bad as Bio-Dome was close. Shore, with the name Tommy Collins, is an out of work loser, he tried stripping at his Andrew Dice Clay's male strip club, that didn't work out, he was living with his mom and her styroform loving boyfriend in their trailer, with his dog, They decide to take the trailer to vegas to get married, so he has nowhere to stay, so he gets summond to jury Duty, get's on a trial, everyone things the guy is guilty, but he says not guilty so that he can keep staying in the hotel. Well, turns out he was right, and then he gets Tia Carrere to fall for him and he becomes a lawyer, Happy ending, big surprise, I think I may have fallen asleep at some point. So, yup, watched 6 Pauly Shore movies in one day.... I hate my life.

Ok, so to recap, here is order that I would put them in from best to worst:
1) Encino Man
2) Son-In-Law
3) Pauly Shore is Dead
4) In The Army Now
5) Jury Duty
9999999) Bio-Dome

Want to thank everyone who came out and watched some of the Marathon, there was lot of beverages consumed, which there needed to be, especially with all the unnecessary Male ass that was shown in these movies, that was a unfortunate reaccurring theme for some reason. Also I was a little disappointed that it took us until Son-In-Law to come up with the idea for the drinking game, should have started that at the beginning, although we might have died. Next up, a Carl, wait for it, Weathers day, not sure when, still figuring out what movies, but it will happen.

Ok, a couple other things going on this weekend, went to the BU hockey game on Friday, they beat Northeastern to tie up their Series at 1, 3rd game is tonight, and I will be going that that as well, not sure what the crowd will be like, I think it's spring break, cause it was empty on Friday, but not sure it was the start or the end, cause it it was the end, then people could be back in time. Anyway, UMass did not have a good showing they are out, BC, UNH and Merrimack were all able to take advantage of their home ice and move on to the Garden with sweeps, only 1 spot left. The BU basketball team was able to pull off the win and move on to the NCAA Tournament, Harvard was not so lucky, losing at the buzzer to Princeton. Getting excited, brackets are out tonight, getting ready to fill it out, just not sure how the first 4 games are gonna be handled, will they count, will they not, cause if they do, then brackets have to be in before 6 on tuesday, but if they don't how can we fill them out not knowing who the last teams are? Oh well, find out soon

One last thing, what good is having a secret if everyone apparently already knew it? So, that then when you finally let the cat out of the bag, it's just like, oh, everyone already knew, great, fantastic, now I feel like the idiot, and angry, betrayed, violated. I blame Michael Scott, shouldn't have told him. Well, apparently I'm easier to read then I thought, so either no more secrets and just tell everyone everything, or just do a better job at hiding my secrets, 2nd one is probably a better option. But anyway, with all this talk about secrets, that leads up to today's treat, enjoy.
Want more?

What? More?
Another?
Last one
Ok, hope you enjoyed all these fantastic Secrets. Mine wasn't as good
