SAW

First Up, the Original SAW movie released October 29th, 2004. It stars Leigh Whannell, Cary Elwes, Danny Glover, Ken Leung (aka Miles Straume from Lost), Michael Emerson (aka Ben Linus From Lost), Benito Martinez (aka Aceveda from The Shield), Shawnee Smith, Moinca Potter and Tobin Bell. Directed by James Wan. Grossed 55m domestic, 103m worldwide on a budget of 1.2m

00:00: LGF - Lions Gates Films, they have been pretty successful in recent years I gotta say, they do a lot of horror and stuff like that, but I feel like they just used to be associated with low budget direct to video crap, and now they have huge films that do a lot of business. Then of course their TV division with Mad Men and Weeds has taken off, and of course they also did ALF, so that's awesome.

00:05: The one thing that I really liked about this first movie, is how it was for the most part focused in the one room, and while they go in and out with the back stories and everything, everything centralizes in this one room. Seems like in the rest of the series, probably because they had a bigger budget, they try and to expand it more, and I don't think it works as well.

00:10: Something that I just realized is that Leigh Whannell, the guy who plays Adam, also wrote the movie with the director James Wan, not sure how much he really was involved after this first one, I mean I'm sure he gets writing credits for all of movies, but I wonder what his involvement actually was.

00:15: And there it is, they find the Saws and realize it's the work of the Jigsaw killer, which raises the question why was this move called Saw, is it cause they have Saws, or cause of the jigsaw killer, cause it's for him, I feel like the movie should be called Jigsaw, which probably would have made more sense for the series.

00:20: And Ben Linus, I mean Michael Emerson makes his first appearance, It's really hard to watch him in anything and not think of him as Ben, so I'm just gonna call him Ben, kinda like Obi-Wan. Also just the way he talks about the patient and tells everyone his name is "John"  just reminds me of any time he would talk to Locke in lost, he was the only one that ever called him "John" Gonna be weird to have Ben and Locke in a show together and not being Ben and Locke, not sure that's gonna work. BTW, when watching this for the first time, this scene seems pretty irrelevant, but it's interesting just how relevant it is.

00:25: Amanda makes her first appearance, seems fairly inconsequential at the time, but little was it known how big a part she would play in the series, which makes sense seeing as how she actually survives a test and is thankful for Jigsaw.

00:32: Of course seems like in all horror movies, you got to have a creepy scene with some kid acting all weird and something crazy happening, the parents then always just ignore it, but then of course it ends up biting them in the ass.

00:40: I wonder if Michael Emerson's performance in this movie had anything to do with his casting in Lost, he plays his role as a psycho following someone elses orders pretty well, much like in Lost him following Jacob's orders.

00:43: I've never really been sure that I totally like the casting of Danny Glover in this role as the obsessed ex-detective who goes crazy and rogue after his partner dies. I guess he's alright, but I don't know feel like it could have been someone else. Meanwhile Ken Leung in this movie, I like him as a sidekick detective, kinda like in the alternate reality in the last season of Lost when him and Sawyer were detectives, didn't remember it at the time, but I guess he got some practice in this movie first. BTW was it wrong to me to have assumed that Donald Glover from Community was Danny Glover's son, seemed to make sense, but it's not true.

00:50: Ok, so when I was originally watching this movie, this was the part when I realized who the killer was, not the character, but the actor, cause I recognixed his voice, cause it's not distorted, and at the time I as catching up ond 24, and Tobin Bell was in season 2, I didn't not realize that was him at the hospital however, and obviously didn't see the end coming, but when I saw who the actor was, I was not surprised.

00:53: Poor miles, you almost had him, but with all the traps this killer has setup, you got to be more careful then that, just dumb right there.

00:57: I must say that out of all the games in all the movies, this one was probably the most involved and elaborate. Sure in the other movies, they may have had ones that were obviously more brutal or complicated, but this one was much more involved. Saws, glow in the dark paint, hearts on toliets, cigarettes, 2 way mirrors, keys, chains blood, poison, guns, holes in the wall, Shaq, Dr. Phil, oh wait, nope, that was one of the scary movies, although there is an interesting story that goes along with that, but I think that has to do with Saw III.

01:00 - It's always interesting to hear foreign people doing American accents, cause like usually when an American actor does english accent or something like that, it's often easy to tell if it's kinda crappy, but like when an english person tries to do an American accent, like Cary Elwes is doing here, it's just weird.

01:05 - Ok, so he gets electrocuted and all of a sudden he remember how he got there, well that;s convenient, is electrocuting someone a good way to bring back memories? Is this some kind of scientific fact that I missed along the way?

01:10: I wonder who came up with the idea of this creepy doll? That thing is just weird looking and when it's riding the bike? Imagine that thing coming after you with the weird laugh it has. Some people have some messed up minds.

01:15: Now we establish how these people aren't all they seem to be, and that they have issues and need to straighten out their lives, hence the reason why they were kidnapped. Jigsaw is an interesting guy really, like is he really supposed to be the bad guy here, sure a lot of people died because of his traps and games, but apparently they were all people that were messing up theirs or other peoples lives, and maybe they didn't deserve to die, but he never actaully kills anyone, although Miles getting shot seemed to go against the rules a little bit, they never established that he was really a bad guy or did anything wrong, and he ends up getting shot just doing his job.

01:20: " I don't give a crap if you covered yourself in peanut butter and have a 15 hooker gang bang."

01: 22: Time runs out, of course Ben does the typical movie thing of instead of just killing the person like they are say they will, they take their time and it backfires.

01:27: The acting in this movie is pretty bad at times. Cary Elwes and Leigh Wanndell are pretty bad in some of these scenes.

01:30: And finally the Saw is used for what it was meant for, he saws off his foot. Meanwhile Ben shoots Glover and the kids from Angels in the Outfield don't have a father again.

01:32: I'm not sure why he then shoots Adam, clearly the time was up, not sure why killing him at this poiint mattered, he should have done it way before if he was really ever gonna do it, coiurse he doesn't kill him, so it didn't matter anyway.

01:36: Glad we get to see Ben's story now that Adam already killed him.

01:37: And then your mind gets blown, he was there all along, the killer was the "dead" guy. The weird thing is that they never really seemed too concerned with him other then briefly mentioning him a the beginning, guessing that was on purpose to get you to forget that he was even there. Here's the thing that has always kinda bothered him, he tells him that the key is in the bathtub that he was in at the start, which of course went down the drain at the beginning, but what if it hadn't and he found it right away and unlocked his chain, what then? and where was the key to the other chain? and also didn't it just seem that he didn't have nearly as much on the line, Cary Elwes had his family's life at stake. Like the Fear Factory for the credits.

Ok, off to a good start, now on to Saw II
